POLLUTION CONTROL NORMS

Industrial / Commercial activities generate several pollutants/ waste which contaminate the environment. Industrial/ Commercial/ Domestic activities are a potential source of:

In order to control Pollution caused by Industrial/ Commercial units and for management of Waste, certain Pollution Control Norms/Acts/Rules have been notified by the Ministry of Environment, Govt. of India and Pollution Control Boards. These norms have been framed considering the assimilative capacity of our environment for the purpose of protecting and improving the quality of the environment and preventing and abating environmental pollution.

It is mandatory for the industrial units to comply with these norms for which certain Pollution Control devices and control measures need to follow. These Devices/Equipments help to meet the prescribed standards set up by Govt.

Various Pollution Control Acts/ Rules in India.

THE WATER (PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF POLLUTION) ACT, 1974 : This act provide for the prevention and control of water pollution and the maintaining or restoring of wholesomeness of water.
THE AIR (PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF POLLUTION) ACT, 1981: This act provide was enacted to provide for the prevention, control and abatement of air pollution.
THE ENVIRONMENT (PROTECTION) RULES, 1986 : The standards for emission or discharge of environmental pollutants from the industries, operations or processes were framed for the purpose of protecting and improving the quality of the environment and preventing and abating environmental pollution.
BIO-MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT RULES. These rules shall apply to all persons who generate, collect, receive, store, transport, treat, dispose, or handle bio medical waste in any form including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, dispensaries, veterinary institutions, animal houses, pathological laboratories, blood banks, ayush hospitals, clinical establishments, research or educational institutions.
HAZARDOUS AND OTHER WASTES (MANAGEMENT AND TRANSBOUNDARY MOVEMENT) RULES, 2016: These rules shall apply to the management of hazardous and other wastes.
PLASTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT RULES: These rules shall apply to every waste generator, local body, Gram Panchayat, manufacturer, Importers and producer to give thrust on plastic waste minimization, source segregation, recycling and adopt polluter’s pay principle for the sustainability of the waste management system.
E-WASTE MANAGEMENT RULES: These rules shall apply to every manufacturer, producer, consumer, bulk consumer, collection centres, dealers, e-retailer, refurbisher, dismantler and recycler involved in manufacture, sale, transfer, purchase, collection, storage and processing of e-waste or electrical and electronic equipment.
THE BATTERIES (MANAGEMENT AND HANDLING) RULES: These rules shall apply to every manufacturer, importer, re-conditioner, assembler, dealer, recycler, auctioneer, consumer and bulk consumer involved in manufacture, processing, sale, purchase and use of batteries or components thereof.
